Yellowstone fans received a special gift tonight when Paramount + released the first trailer for 1923, the highly awaited second prequel series written by Taylor Sheridan.
It premiered right after 1883 and had the best debut of any original program on the streaming service in December of last year.
It came as a shock to find that 1883 would be the only installment, but 1923 appears to have picked off where the previous one left off.
Starring beside Kevin Costner‘s John Dutton Jr. (James Badge Dale) on Yellowstone is John Dutton (James Badge Dale) (previously played by Dabney Coleman in flashbacks).
His parents, James (Tim McGraw) and Margaret (Faith Hill) Hill, are dead by the time the story took place in 1923, and he now works for Jacob (Harrison Ford), James’s brother.

Jacob and Cara (Helen Mirren) Dutton, who was previously revealed to be childless, now serve as ranch patriarch and matriarch. The most recent synopsis claims:
In the second part of the Dutton family saga, set in 1923, we see Jacob (Ford) and Cara Dutton, the parents of Jacob’s (and Ford’s) son, John (Mirren).
In the first part of the twentieth century, the mountain west and the Dutton family who live there are hit by several disasters, including a pandemic, a catastrophic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression.
Other notable actors such as Darren Mann (“Animal Kingdom”), Michelle Randolph (“A Snow White Christmas”), James Badge Dale (“Hightown”), Marley Shelton (“Scream”), Brian Geraghty (“Big Sky”), Aminah Nieves (“Blueberry”), and Jerome Flynn (“Game of Thrones”) are featured in 1923 alongside Ford and Mirren.

From what you’ve said, it sounds like the two-season restricted run of 1923 will cover more than just the year of its title, as the Great Depression didn’t begin until 1929, and prohibition was lifted only in 1933.
In general, this appears to be yet another excellent addition to the world created by Taylor Sheridan, which, if you haven’t explored it already, is well worth your time.
While Yellowstone never fails to impress, the Mayor of Kingstown is one of the most underappreciated series of recent years.
