2024 Chevy Silverado EV Release Date Status: Performance, Power, Range & More Details
The bold GMC Hummer EV and the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV share an electric engine, but the latter is a more traditional interpretation of the electric pickup truck. Some may find the feature evocative of the now-discontinued Avalanche pickup truck from the early 2000s.
A midgate design option allows users to fold down the partition between the bed and the cab for further storage space. A big battery pack is believed to have a range of up to 400 miles on a single charge, while a battery with a range of 100 miles may be charged in just 10 minutes using DC fast-charging technology.
The Silverado EV will be able to tow up to 10,000 pounds and handle loads weighing up to 1300 pounds thanks to dual electric motors that can produce up to 664 horsepower and provide standard all-wheel drive. Although Chevrolet hasn’t provided any details or information on the truck, it has stated that it would be produced in Michigan at the same factory that produces Hummers. The Ford F-150 Lightning and newer models like the Rivian R1T and the Tesla Cybertruck will be tough competitors for the Silverado EV when it arrives on market.
When2024 Chevy Silverado EV Release Date?
The Chevrolet Silverado EV will be a brand-new model for 2024 and is scheduled to hit the market in 2023.
2024 Chevy Silverado EV Availability and Price
The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV will cost six figures when it goes on sale. Yes, when the vehicle does launch in the spring of 2023, Chevrolet will do so with a RST First Edition variant that has the brand’s longest-range battery, with a potential range of 400 miles. A sticker price of $105,000 plus extra destination costs will be part of that range.
However, this model sold out in less than 12 minutes after reservations opened, so it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to buy one. But the Silverado EV’s journey is far from over.
After the RST First Edition is released, further models will begin to appear in stores. The WT, RST, Trial Boss, and more of these types are among them. Starting at $39,900, prices will thereafter increase. MSRPs for more trims will vary from $50,000 to $60,000 to $70,000 to $80,000 and upwards.
You may make reservations now for a $100 refundable deposit at the Chevrolet Silverado EV website(opens in new tab).
On its website, Chevy does state that, “Reservations do not ensure timely delivery of the car. Dealer determines final cost.” This may imply that if demand is great enough, a dealership might mark up a $39,900 Silverado EV. Though one can only hope that GM follows Ford’s lead and threatens to punish dealerships who try to con customers.
2024 Chevy Silverado EV: Power and performance
The Chevy Silverado EV from 2024 is a powerhouse. It has more than 780 lb-ft of torque and 664 horsepower. Additionally, GM predicts a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds, which is quite quick for a big pickup truck.
We’re looking at a maximum trailering weight of 10,000 pounds with a payload of up to 1,300 pounds. These figures pertain to the RST model.
The WT model, which is intended for fleet clients, will be at the low end. These customers will receive 615 lb-ft of torque and 510 HP. The WT type allows for payloads of 1,200 pounds and towing capacities of 8,000 pounds. “After initial introduction, Chevrolet will produce a fleet model with up to 20,000 pounds max trailering with the max tow package,” said the press statement for the news.
The RST First Edition trim will include front- and rear-drive motors, which together will provide an e4WD system. A Multi-Flex midgate for increased load space, variable air suspension, and four-wheel steering are further features of the RST First Edition. The four-wheel steering will enable smaller turning radii and better high-speed corner handling.
The Tow/Haul mode, trailer hitch provisions, an integrated trailer brake controller, and Hitch Guidance are all standard on the RST and WT versions. Chevrolet’s Advanced Trailering System will be included with the RST.
2024 Chevy Silverado EV: Battery and range
The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV comes in a variety of grades, but all are constructed on GM’s Ultium Platform, which is specifically made for EVs. A 24-module Ultium battery pack will be part of the “basic framework” of the RST First Edition. Sadly, Chevrolet withheld information on the size of the battery pack in the Silverado EV.
The RST and WT versions will have public DC fast charging capabilities with 350kW maximum charging rates. According to Chevy, drivers may receive a 100-mile range after just 10 minutes of charging.
The 10 outlets on the vehicle, with a combined power output of 10.2Kw, will allow Silverado EV customers to charge additional gadgets. Actually, the Silverado EV may recharge another EV by utilizing the auxiliary charge wire that is readily available.
RST owners will benefit from certain extra charging benefits. Ultium Charge 360, “which is meant to simplify the complete charging process, including access to more than 100,000 publicly available charging stations in the U.S. and Canada,” would be available to them.
2024 Chevy Silverado EV: Driver-assistance tech and special features
GM is developing its own form of self-driving technology, just like every other EV attempting to compete with Tesla. Chevy says that Super Cruise, the first “real hands-free driver-assistance technology” on the market, will be included with the RST First Edition.
On “more than 200,000 miles of suitable roadways in the U.S. and Canada,” drivers are able to operate their vehicles hands-free.
Regarding the charging infrastructure, GM is making every effort to keep up with Tesla’s Supercharger network. Even while towing a trailer, Silverado EV drivers may design optimal routes using the myChevrolet app.
GM is switching to Ultifi, a new Linux-based software platform. It will enable quick and frequent software upgrades, enabling drivers to gradually acquire new functionalities. Additionally, drivers will enjoy hands-free start and keyless access.
