Stargate SG-1 and The X-Files Actor Michael Kopsa passed away at age 66
Michael Kopsa, a Canadian actor and voice-over artist who was in the TV shows The X-Files, Smallville, and Stargate SG-1 and the movie Fantastic Four, has died. He was 66.
His ex-wife, Lucia Frangione, told the news on Twitter on Tuesday. She said the late actor died on Sunday from a brain tumor. “The great Michael Kopsa, my dear friend and Nora’s father, died of a brain tumor on Oct. 23, 2022,” she wrote.
“He was a great voice actor, actor on stage and screen, carpenter, musician, and painter. The most important thing about him was that he was a loving and present father.”
When PEOPLE tried to talk to Kopsa’s representative, they didn’t have an answer right away. Kopsa was born in Toronto on January 22, 1956. He later moved to the United States to study acting at the Circle in the Square Theatre School. From 1980 to 1984, he lived in New York.
The Hollywood Reporter says that he then moved back to Canada to finish his degree in arts and sciences at the University of Toronto. Kopsa was known for his many TV roles that were shot in Vancouver or Toronto, such as Fringe, The Net, Dead Zone, and The Sentinel.
On Stargate SG-1, he played General Kerrigan, and on The X-Files, he played Rick Culver. He was often seen in Hallmark movies, such as Valentine in the Vineyard, Marrying Father Christmas, Love in Winterland, and It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.
In a post on the official Instagram page for Hallmark Channel, the network remembered Kopsa by writing: “Michael Kopska was a friend and coworker to many people. Today, we remember his life and work. In our hearts forever.”

Timing, which came out in 1985, was Kopsa’s first significant movie role. Since then, he’s been in a lot of other movies, like Fantastic Four, Apollo 18, Love Happens, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
He did voice work for Mobile Suit Gundam, the anime series Galaxy Angel, Ninjago, Alien Racers, and Princess Castle.
