Altered Carbon Season 3: Release Date Status, Renewal Status and More
Netflix’s ambitious cyberpunk series Altered Carbon, based on Richard K. Morgan’s novel of the same name, was years in the making. However, Altered Carbon ultimately appeared on Netflix in February 2018 with a 10-episode first season because of its massive locked and loaded, which allowed the series’ producers to go all out with sci-fi mayhem. As soon as the first season of Altered Carbon premiered, viewers quickly realised that the programme, which takes place in an alternate reality where people have found a means to digitally save their mind, was well worth their time. Since the release of Altered Carbon season 2 on Netflix in February 2020, people have been speculating about the possibility of a third season.
There has been no official word on whether or not Altered Carbon will return for a third season at this time. However, there are still many unanswered concerns following the season 2 conclusion, which may be addressed in a third chapter of the Altered Carbon world, in which the dead don’t remain dead. Some of the show’s key characters were killed off in the last episode of season 2 (similar to how HBO’s fantasy drama Game of Thrones killed out prominent individuals with no remorse), so who will appear in the prospective season 3 of the show?? There are a lot of questions to be answered here: Are the major characters’ stacks gone for good, or will they return in classic television fashion?
So many unanswered yet hotly contested topics will be left unanswered until Netflix releases a fresh set of episodes. Until further notice, the following is our best guess at what an Altered Carbon season 3 may look like and feel like.
What’s the release date for Altered Carbon season 3?
Season 3 of Altered Carbon has yet to be confirmed by Netflix, therefore no release date has been set. A few pieces of information can be used to build a puzzle.
It debuted on Netflix on February 2, 2018. The second season premiered on February 27, 2020. On March 19, 2020, Altered Carbon: Resleeved will be released as an anime. Because Netflix is famously secretive about its audience metrics, the only data points available to influence assumptions about a release date to relate to the series’ exorbitant production costs. Netflix has been cancelling shows more indiscriminately lately, so Altered Carbon will need to have a strong second season to get renewed. However, the corporation seems devoted to the core IP, so maybe the chances are in Altered Carbon’s favour.
In any case, viewers shouldn’t consider Netflix’s silence as a warning. Season 2 was ordered five months after season 1, so fans should wait until July to write obituaries.
Season 3 of Altered Carbon is unlikely to come on Netflix lately 2022 if it gets renewed. Having to wait two years for a season you’ll probably binge-watch in a weekend or less isn’t tempting, but Altered Carbon season 3 should be well worth the wait. You can rewatch the second chapter, the first, or the spin-off universe.

Who’s in the Altered Carbon season 3 cast?
At this point, we can’t really comment on who might be cast in Altered Carbon season 3 because no official announcement has been made, and no casting choices have been revealed or even hinted at. Even though O.G. Kovacs (Byron Mann) was destroyed, it is indicated in the series that the humanoid AI Edgar Poe (played by Chris Conner) had a backup copy of him. Alison Schapker, the show’s executive producer, verified this in an interview with IGN.
Our favourite moment in season 1 was when Kovacs returned [Elias] Ryker to Ortega and all you saw were these boots stepping out of the elevator and we were like, ‘I suppose Kovacs is returning, but in what sleeve?'” said one fan. Schapker stated this. “It was our goal to deliver on that promise in season two. The thought of Poe, who has been battling degradation for the whole season, having his own moment of nobility when he practically kills himself but manages to replicate Kovacs at the same time was a delight to us. It is our pledge to the viewer that there is Takeshi Kovacs’ stack, and there is his awareness.. It remains to be seen, though, in which sleeve.”
In Altered Carbon season 3, fans are hoping to see Anthony Mackie, who portrayed Kovacs in the first two seasons, return. After one season, Joel Kinnaman was replaced with Mackie. If the authors follow the same trend of re-sleeving characters each season, it is doubtful that Mackie will return. However, there is a chance that Mackie will resurface in flashback scenes. “I’m not ready to hang up my Altered Carbon shoes,” the actor told The Hollywood Reporter “I’d love to bring Kovacs back for another season if given the chance. [Leaving the series] is not something I’m ready to do.”
Will Yun Lee is expected to reprise his role as “Kovacs Prime” in season 3, along with Chris Conner as Poe, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Quellcrist Falconer, Simone Missick as Trepp, and Dina Shihabi as Dig 301. Whether or not Reileen Kawahara’s sister, Reileen Lachman, will return to the show is still up in the air. Season 3 of Altered Carbon is likely to feature new characters, including a possible new Takeshi Kovacs.
Zazie Beetz, who starred in the Joker and Deadpool 2 films, has recently been linked to the role of the newest Takeshi Kovacs ace in his sleeve. Allegedly, all of the speculations stems from an interview with the show’s creator, Laeta Kalogridis, conducted in 2018 “If you don’t actually have to perform surgery, the idea that this kind of technology creates interesting intersections between your physical self and your inner or spiritual self, or your idea of being fluid in some way, certainly the idea of reassigning your gender, becomes a whole lot easier. If nothing else, it changes. You’re still in a body you weren’t born in.. And I believe we’ve only begun to scratch the surface of the possibility of re-creating one’s physical self in new and inventive ways.”
It’s possible that Altered Carbon fans may see Kovacs as a woman, but they should wait for confirmation from a credible source before declaring Beetz an Altered Carbon cast member.

What’s the plot of Altered Carbon season 3?
Your estimate is as good as anybody else’s when it comes to the narrative of a possible Altered Carbon season 3 — even Schapker’s. He informed the Hollywood Reporter in March 2020 that Schapker’s prediction was correct “We’re still waiting for Netflix to make an official announcement. We don’t have a truck. We’re in the middle of a season now. I’m desperate for a third season! My head is swimming with directives, but I’m not sure how much help I can be. However, we’re all set to go!”
What happened to Kovacs and his sister Reileen is the most pressing unsolved mystery from Altered Carbon season 2. Everyone wants to see Anthony Mackie again, no matter what character he plays. That’s not impossible if the show’s makers decided to bring the much-loved actor back. Surely, he can be included in a narrative because there are many sleeves that look like Mackie. Season 3 is still months away, but one thing we know for sure is that what’s dead doesn’t necessarily remain that way if the stack is OK
