Finally, Apple Music is expected to receive long-awaited audio streaming capabilities in June 2021.
Apple Music will be supported with lossless audio and 3D surround sound through Dolby Atmos from the following month.
The good news is that this time, Apple is going out of its way to give these new features for free to its customers (including those on Family & Student Plans).
Apple Music Lossless Audio Update
The lossless audio update for Apple Music subscribers was previously leaked by Apple ahead of the launch.
Apple Music has a library of about 75 million songs, and all of them will be available in CD Quality from next month onwards.
The CD quality, which is 16 bit at 44.1 kHz by default on Apple devices, can be as high as 24 bit at 48 kHz natively. At 24 bits and 192 kHz, the audio quality is unrivaled.
However, there’s a CATCH.
If you want to listen to Apple Music in “High-Resolution Lossless” quality, you’ll need external equipment like a DAC.

What to Expect After Apple Reveals Their Upcoming Update
Lossless audio has become increasingly popular in music streaming applications in recent years. Tidal was the first to offer lossless music in a monthly price of $19.99 when it debuted in January 2016.
Amazon Music HD was made completely free for Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers immediately following Apple’s announcement. The price of an internet security suite has plummeted over the last five years. Today, it’s priced at $9.99, which is less than half the regular industry cost.
The same will happen with Spotify’s plan to launch the HiFi Tier in the months ahead.
