Recently, the Backstreet Boys played at London’s O2 Arena and paid tribute to the late Aaron Carter.
Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys‘ brother Aaron was discovered deceased at his Southern California home last week (November 5). Carter, who began his musical career as a youngster in the late 1990s, was 34 years old when he passed away. Around 11 a.m. local time, someone called 911, and when police arrived, they found him unconscious in his bathtub.
Now, Nick and the rest of the Backstreet Boys have led an on-stage remembrance of Aaron by presenting a video of the singer during their rendition of “No Place.” Video from the performance, which was a part of the group’s ongoing tour in support of their 2019 album “DNA,” shows vocalist Kevin Richardson speaking to the audience about Carter’s passing.
“Tonight, we’ve got a little bit of heavy hearts,” Richardson said, “because we lost one of our family members yesterday. We just wanted to find a moment in our show to recognize him.” He continued: “Nick’s little brother, Aaron Carter, passed away yesterday, and he’s a part of our family and we thank you guys for all the love, all your well-wishes, and all your support.”
Nick was seen crying as Richardson was speaking and then hugging his bandmates as the audience applauded. The song they chose, “No Place,” was “extremely significant” to them, according to Richardson, because “that song is about family.” Howie Dorough, the bandmate, then started singing “Breathe,” a song from the Backstreet Boys’ 2013 album “In a World Like This.”
The concert homage adds to the flood of recent congratulations that the Carters have received from the music industry and beyond. Along with celebrities like Hillary Duff and Melissa Joan Hart, the boy band New Kids on the Block and lyricist Diane Warren paid tribute to the late singer yesterday (November 6). Nick posted a number of pictures of himself and his brother to Instagram along with his own message of tribute.
