Blindspotting Season 2 Confirmed | Scheduled Release Date Status, Cast Updates, and News
Starz’s “Blindspotting” television series premiered in mid-June, officially extending the “Blindspotting” universe to include a television show as well. It was three years after the release of the film of the same name, which starred and was co-written by Daveed Diggs (“Snowpiercer”) and Rafael Casal (“Snowpiercer”) (“Bad Education”). It is the story of two friends, Collin (Diggs) and Miles (Casal), who live in the Oakland, California neighborhood of “Blindspotting.” With each passing day, Colin struggles to remain on good terms with the law as he draws closer and closer to the end of his probation — a goal that is made more difficult by Miles, a man who is constantly bringing violence and chaos into their lives. When it was released, “Blindspotting” was met with widespread critical and commercial acclaim, and it became a financial success. The film earned a total of $4.3 million domestically and $5 million internationally, representing a significant return on its nearly $340 thousand dollar budget. In these days, Rotten Tomatoes reminds us of the film’s positive reception, with a Fresh critics score of 94 percent and an audience score of 87 percent on the site.
As a result of the film’s success, Starz’s “Blindspotting” was born. The “Blindspotting” television show, which was announced in September 2020 by Deadline, was confirmed to be a continuation of the film. Following Ashley, played by Jasmine Cephas Jones in the film, who was first introduced as Miles’ long-term partner with whom he has a son, the series would continue. Diggs and Casal have been announced as the writers, executive producers, and co-creators of the television continuation of the hit series The Walking Dead. Additionally, in addition to the return of some familiar faces to the “Blindspotting” television show, there are also some innovative extensions, with Ashley’s internal monologue frequently taking the form of stylish spoken word solos and modern dance scenes making their way into the action, to name a few key examples.
Is “Blindspotting” going to return for a second season? Here’s what we know so far about the situation.
Blindspotting Season 2 Release Date
Season 2 of “Blindspotting” has yet to be announced, and no release date has been set. As a result of the fact that “Blindspotting” has only recently premiered on Starz, the network has yet to announce whether the show will be renewed or canceled. The practice of renewing new TV shows for a second season before their first season premieres has become increasingly common in recent years (a prime example is Amazon’s decision to greenlight “The Wheel of Time” Season 2 months before the show’s first season premiered), but it is not a standard practice in the industry. Consequently, it’s likely that Starz will adhere to a more traditional renewal timeline and announce their decision on “Blindspotting” Season 2 near the conclusion of Season 1’s eight-episode run.
If “Blindspotting” is renewed for a second season, it’s reasonable to expect the show to premiere as soon as June 2022, one year after the premiere of Season 1. It is anticipated that pre-production on Season 2 will begin in the fall of 2021 — shortly after Season 1 concludes — and that filming on the new season will begin at the end of 2021 or in the beginning of 2022, with enough time allotted to edit the episodes and put together a new season after the first one is completed. On the other hand, if the second season of “Blindspotting” is renewed but delayed for any reason, the new season could premiere on Starz later in 2022.
Blindspotting Season 2 Cast
The first season of “Blindspotting” is still in its early stages, which means we can’t say for certain which cast members will return for Season 2, assuming that season is ever released in its entirety. Whatever happens, it seems safe to assume that Jones, who portrays Ashley and whose character arc serves as the show’s primary plot point, will return for Season 2 of “Blindspotting.” In the same way, fans can almost certainly expect Atticus Woodward to return to the role of Ashley and Miles’ son, Sean, as well as Helen Hunt to reprise her role as Miles’ mother, Rainey. Based on how the story of “Blindspotting” Season 1 develops, there is a possibility that Rafael Casal will return to reprise his role as Miles, the character he created in the film “Blindspotting.”
Additionally, it appears likely that Benjamin Earl Turner (Earl), Jaylen Barron (Trish), and Candace Nicholas-Lippman (Janelle) will appear in the new season as members of the Season 1 supporting cast. As for the rest of the season, we can’t say for certain which current season 1 cast members will return for Season 2, so you’ll just have to cross your fingers that your favorite “Blindspotting” characters make it through Season 1 unscathed.
Blindspotting Season 2 Plot
There have been no new developments in the “Blindspotting” Season 2 storyline revealed by any of the cast or crew members involved with the show. While it’s not impossible for the show to be renewed, it’s possible that nobody is ready to share their vision with the rest of the world if it doesn’t get picked up again. Therefore, viewers will have to stick with “Blindspotting” Season 1 if they want to get a good sense of where the story will likely begin to take a turn for the worse in Season 2.
For the time being, Ashley and Sean are still at the beginning of a new chapter in their lives after theirs has been turned upside down. It takes place six months after the events of the film “Blindspotting,” which is depicted in the Season 1 premiere “The Ordeal.” On New Year’s Eve, we re-join Ashley as she stands outside her Oakland home, watching her partner, Miles, be arrested for drug possession. Ashley realizes that moving in with Miles’ mother, Rainey, and Miles’ sister, Trish, is the only way she will be able to maintain some stability in her life, as well as Sean’s life, while Miles is behind bars. This appears to be a temporary living arrangement until Miles is released, but when it becomes more permanent, Ashley is forced to reevaluate what her life will look like as a member of Rainey’s household, as a single parent, and as a young woman who feels like her life has come to a grinding halt.
New “Blindspotting” Season 2 details will be announced as they become available, so be sure to check back with us frequently.
