Storyline of the Next Series
Poplar will return to normal in Season 12 after the train crash at the end of Season 11, with the Nonnatus House midwives welcoming a heavily pregnant Rhoda Mullucks back to the maternity unit. Rhoda is understandably anxious, as her previous child was born with congenital disabilities in Season 5 after Dr. Patrick Turner prescribed her thalidomide. As stated by Thomas, a ventouse birth will be seen for the first time in the upcoming season. She continued, “Once again, we’re looking at some really compelling stories about how society was developing at that time. Indeed, not every new development will be a welcome improvement. Enoch Powell’s controversial remarks against immigration that led to his removal from the Shadow Cabinet will likewise have an outsized impact on the upcoming section.
