Cillian Murphy’s Career
Pat Kiernan made his theatrical debut as a professional actor in Enda Walsh’s Disco Pigs in September 1996 after Murphy put pressure on him to have an audition at Corcadorca Theatre Company. Kiernan played the role of a temperamental Cork teenager.
“There was something about him – he was incredibly enigmatic, and he would walk into a room with real presence, and you’d go, ‘My God,'” Walsh recalled how they first met and got to know Murphy. The bloodshot eyes that everyone is always talking about have nothing to do with it.”
Murphy said, “I was unbelievably cocky and had nothing to lose, and it suited the part, I suppose.” Disco Pigs, which had only been supposed to play in Cork for three weeks, ended up touring Europe, Canada, and Australia for two years.
Murphy also quit his band and his university. His acting career took off once he got representation, despite his original plan to return to music. His first agent had seen him perform with Disco Pigs.
