D23 Expo 2022; Massive Announcements From Disney, Pixar, Marvel, & More
On Friday, Disney fans from all over the world descended upon Anaheim, California, for D23 Expo 2022, a three-day event honoring the whole Disney empire. Expect some big announcements from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and more during the first D23 convention since 2019 (the year its Disney Plus streaming service started) and the company’s 100th anniversary (which is next year, but companies love to prolong these celebrations).
The Anaheim Convention Center, located next to Disneyland, will host D23 2022 from Friday, September 9, through Sunday, September 11, 2022. The event is sold out, but those who weren’t able to get tickets can watch a broadcast of it online.
Disney now owns many well-known properties in addition to the animated features upon which the corporation was founded. These include Marvel, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Avatar, and Pixar. In other words, there will be a lot of news regarding impending media based on these franchises. This event will be similar to the Star Wars Celebration that took place in the same city in May, but on a far larger scale.
Huge Announcements From Disney, Pixar, Marvel, & More At D23 Expo 2022
Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, Walt Disney Studios, Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, 20th Century Studios, and Disney Branded Television were just some of the Disney film and TV studios that had plenty of announcements to make at the D23 Expo, held September 9-11 at the Anaheim Convention Center near Disneyland.
There were panels with the cast and creatives of nearly every major Disney product, giving fans new glimpses at everything from Indiana Jones 5 to Disenchanted, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to The Little Mermaid. Presentations included news of Christian Slater’s involvement in the Willow remake and Disney Animation’s ambitious next project Wish, starring Ariana DeBose.
Live-Action Film- Theatrical
Marvel
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Paul Rudd, Kathryn Newton, Evangeline Lilly, and Jonathan Majors were among the actors showcased in new video from the upcoming threequel. On February 17th, it will debut in theatres.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Angela Bassett plays Ramonda, and the audience goes wild over a clip from the film. As of the 11th of November, it will be available in theatres.
Captain America: New World Order
Shira Haas and Tim Blake Nelson have joined the cast of the Anthony Mackie-led sequel. On May 3 of 2024, it will be released in theatres.
Fantastic Four
With Kevin Feige’s confirmation, we now know that Matt Shakman will helm the Fantastic Four reboot film, set for release on November 8, 2024.
- Thunderbolts
The Marvel Cinematic Universe will wrap out its fifth phase on July 26, 2024, with the release of Thunderbolts, a film directed by Jake Schreier. The list of stars includes David Harbour, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Wyatt Russell, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Hannah John-Kamen, and Olga Kurylenko.

- Indiana Jones 5
There was a trailer for the fifth film in the highly successful series, Indiana Jones, which has been running for 41 years. Star During his speech, Harrison Ford told the audience that this would be his last time portraying the role of America’s most beloved archaeologist. I’m finished, he declared. Not giving in to you again is a promise I am keeping.
Willow
Christian Slater has been announced as a cast member in the upcoming remake of the 1988 fantasy classic Willow. Among the cast members he will be working with are Warwick Davis, Joanne Whalley, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Ellie Bamber, Dempsey Bryk, Amar Chadha-Patel, and Tony Revolori.
20th Century
- Avatar: The Way of Water
The crowd was shown extensive footage from James Cameron’s long-awaited sequel to one of the highest-grossing films of all time, 20th Century Avatar: The Way of Water.
Disney Live-Action
Mufasa: The Lion King
The name of the prequel was revealed, and a preview was displayed to the audience. Expect it sometime in 2024.
The Little Mermaid
Unveiling a brand new teaser trailer. The anticipated release window for this project is the summer of 2023.

- Hocus Pocus 2
A brand new teaser has been released for the upcoming sequel, which will debut on Disney+ on September 30.
Disenchanted
It’s the first trailer for the sequel, which will debut on Disney+ on November 24.

Animated Film-Theatrical
Elemental
Pixar’s Elemental will premiere on June 16, and we now know who will play the lead roles.
Elio
The 11-year-old dreamer Elio (Yonas Kibreab) will be voiced by Yonas Kibreab, while America Ferrera will also appear in the upcoming Pixar picture. Mary Alice Drumm is the producer, while Adrian Molina is the director. Synopsis: Elio has a hard time finding his place in society because he is an artist, a creative thinker, and a dedicated indoorsman. But over at a top-secret military project, Mom Olga is trying to figure out what an alien signal means. In reality, it is Elio who establishes first contact, is blasted into space, and is taken for Earth’s Ambassador to the stars. The launching date is set for the spring of 2024.
- Inside Out 2
Amy Poehler will be back in the sequel, which Pixar has already announced. A release in the summer of 2024 is planned.
- Strange World
Disney’s upcoming animated feature film has a brand new teaser trailer. premieres on November 23.
- Wish
The next original Walt Disney Animation Studio feature film has been announced, with a release date of fall 2023. The plot was conceptualized by directors Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn and takes place in Rosas, the country of wishes. Asha (Ariana DeBose), a 17-year-old girl, makes an emotional appeal to the stars, and receives help from a cosmic force in the form of a little ball of limitless energy named Star.
They team together to save her town from a terrifying threat, proving that great things can happen when the will of one brave person combines with the power of the stars. The goat’s name is Valentino, and Alan Tudyk will give him a human voice. All of the tracks were written by Julia Michaels. Jennifer Lee wrote the screenplay for the film, which was produced by Peter Del Vecho and co-produced by Juan Pablo Reyes.

Armor Wars
Col. James Rhodes, played by Don Cheadle, is getting his own spinoff series, and it’ll reveal a fresh side of the character. The show’s premiere date has not yet been set.
Loki
Season 2 of the Disney+ show starring Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, and Sophia Di Martino will feature the addition of Ke Huy Quan. The premiere date is still unknown, but production has begun.
Echo
Tantoo Cardinal, Zahn McClarnon, Cody Lightning, and Chaske Spencer, together with Alaqua Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Devery Jacobs, Graham Greene, and more, offered an exclusive preview of the new series Echo. The premiere date is still in the works.
Daredevil: Born Again
When asked about the new Disney+ series starring Charlie Cox, both Kevin Feige and Vincent D’Onofrio were excited to talk about it. The year 2023 marks the beginning of production.
Werewolf by Night
The first TV special from Marvel Studios was announced, and it stars Gael Garcia Bernal and Laura Donnelly as werewolves on Halloween in Werewolf by Night, which will premiere on Disney+ on October 7.

- Star Wars: The Bad Batch
Disney+’s Bad Batch, an animated series set in the Star Wars universe, has had its second season delayed from its original September 28 release date to January 4.

The first trailer for Tales of the Jedi, an animated anthology series set in the Star Wars world, has been released, along with the series’ premiere date of October 26.

- American Born Chinese
New from Disney Channel and 20th TV comes American Born Chinese, an original series exclusive to Disney+. Scheduled for a 2023 debut.
- Big Shot
New episodes of John Stamos’s Disney Channel and ABC Signature shows will return on October 12.
- Iwájú
In 2023, you’ll be able to watch an original, long-form series made in tandem with the Pan-African comic book entertainment firm Kugali. In an ode to Lagos, Nigeria, Kugali creators Olufikayo Ziki Adeola, Hamid Ibrahim, and Tolu Olowofoyeku set the series.
- The Muppets Mayhem
In 2023, streaming subscribers can watch the ABC Signature and Disney Branded Television comedy series.
- National Treasure: Edge of History
Two episodes of the new original series from Disney Branded Television and ABC Signature launch on December 14. A trailer for the show was recently released.
- Prom Pact
Preview of a brand-new Disney Channel Original Movie.
- The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder
In February, we’ll see the debut of Season 2. A brand-new teaser has been released.
- The Santa Clauses
Disney Branded Television and 20th Television have published a first peek trailer for their next original series starring Tim Allen. Release date is November 16.
- Win or Lose
Pixar has launched their first ever long-form series. Casting news: Will Forte will be providing his voice. Debuts in the fall of 2023 for streaming on Disney+.

New Unscripted Holiday Specials
- Best in Snow
Competing for the title of “Best in Snow,” this Tituss Burgess-hosted competition sees teams from all around the world transported to a mystical snowy region called “Snowdome.” There has been no announcement of a premiere date.
- Pentatonix: Around the World for the Holidays
The timer is ticking and superstar a cappella group Pentatonix can’t seem to find the motivation to record their annual holiday album. Currently, there is no scheduled release date.
- The Hip Hop Nutcracker
Rev. Run of Run-D.M.C. Join Run as he takes us to New York City to see The Nutcracker ballet performed in a hip-hop style. There has been no announcement of a premiere date.
Disney Channel
- Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur
The first trailer for the next Disney Television Animation series has been released, and it features special guest star, Alison Brie. Premieres on Disney+ on or after February 10.
- Under Wraps 2
The second instalment from Disney-ABC Television Group and MarVista Entertainment will air for the first time on September 25 (and be available on Disney+ beginning September 30).

- Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures
The 2023 premiere of the Lucasfilm animated series will feature new cast members Jamaal Avery Jr. and Emma Berman.
