Dichen Lachman Takes on a New Role: Joining The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
The beloved science fiction film series, Planet of the Apes, welcomes a new addition to its cast, with actress Dichen Lachman joining Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. The show is based on the 1968 classic movie and follows a group of human survivors in a post-apocalyptic world run by intelligent apes. This marks Lachman’s first significant role since her departure from The 100 in 2020.
About Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
The upcoming American science fiction action film Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Wes Ball, based on a screenplay by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and Patrick Aison, and produced by Joe Hartwick Jr., Jaffa, Silver, and Jason Reed. It is intended as the sequel to War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) and the fourth installment in the Planet of the Apes reboot series. It is produced and distributed by 20th Century Studios. Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Peter Macon, Eka Darville, and Kevin Durand play the lead roles.
Following Disney’s acquisition of Fox in 2019, production on the film commenced with Ball attached as director. Most of the script was written during the COVID-19 pandemic, with casting beginning in June 2022, after the completion of the hand. Teague was released in the lead role in August, and the film’s title and additional cast members were announced in the months that followed. In October, production began in Sydney.
The release date for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes in the United States is set for May 24, 2024.

Since its initial release in 1968, the Planet of the Apes franchise has been an integral part of popular culture. With each installment, storylines, characters, and visual effects, including performance capture technology, have advanced. The most recent films in the franchise are the trilogy starring Andy Serkis, which began in 2011 with Rise of the Planet of the Apes and concluded in 2017 with War For the Planet of the Apes. On May 24, 2024, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be released in theatres.
The film has already begun production in Australia. Lachman will join Freya Allan, Owen Teague, William H. Macy, and Kevin Durand in the cast. Eka Darville, Travis Jeffery, Neil Sandilands, Sara Wiseman, Lydia Peckham, and Ras-Samuel Weld A’abzgi are also featured. Wes Ball, known for his work on The Maze Runner franchise, will direct the film. A team of talented writers, including Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Patrick Aison, penned the screenplay.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes: Dichen Lachman Joins Cast
Lachman will join a cast that already includes William H. Macy, Owen Teague, Freya Allen, and Peter Macon, among others. Wes Ball will direct the legendary franchise’s next installment. The film’s role of Lachman is currently unknown.
The actress is no stranger to significant franchises, as Lachman starred in Jurassic World Dominion in 2022. Lachman has also starred in numerous high-profile television projects, such as Dollhouse, Last Resort, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and the famous Apple TV+ series Severance.
The upcoming film takes place “many years” after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes (2017). As a result of Caesar’s relocation of his people to an oasis, new ape societies have flourished, while humans have reverted to a “savage existence.”
The film’s description states,
“Some groups have never heard of Caesar, while others have contorted his teaching to build burgeoning empires,” reads the film’s description. “In this setting, one ape leader begins to enslave other groups to find human technology, while another ape, who watched his clan be taken, embarks on a journey to find freedom. A young human woman becomes key to the latter’s quest, although she has plans of her own.”

Dichen Lachman (born 22 February 1982) is an actress and model from Australia. She became well-known for her roles as Katya Kinski in the soap opera Neighbours (2005–2007) and Sierra in Joss Whedon’s science fiction drama series Dollhouse (2006–2008). (2009–2010).
Lachman subsequently portrayed Suren in the supernatural comedy-drama series Being Human (2012), Tani Tumrenjack in the military action-drama series Last Resort (2012–2013), Jiaying in the superhero drama series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
