On September 9, 2021, casting for the upcoming second season was officially announced. On Tuesday, October 5, casting was completed. For a second season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under, which will film in New Zealand and have its New Zealand premiere in 2022, TVNZ will collaborate with Stan, World of Wonder, Passion Distribution, and Warner Bros. International Television Production New Zealand, according to TVNZ Director of Content Cate Slater.
The season was supposed to start filming on January 18 and continue through February 14 of 2022, according to media reports. Around this time, judges from season 1 Michelle Visage and Rhys Nicholson were spotted in south Auckland, sparking rumors that they would both be returning to judge season 2.
