Early Life Details
Flavor Flav was born on March 16, 1959, in Roosevelt, New York, to William Jonathan Drayton, Jr. He was raised by his mother Anna, father William (who was the proprietor of a restaurant), brother Steven, and sister Jean in Freeport, New York. He taught himself to play the piano when he was five years old and went on to play the guitar and drums as a kid. Freeport High School was Drayton’s first choice for high school, but he dropped out in his junior year despite being active in the choir.
After setting his family’s house on fire while playing with a lighter as a toddler, he was imprisoned multiple times for breaking into and robbing stores as a teenager. He met Carlton Ridenhour (better known as Chuck D) at Adelphi University in Long Island, New York, in 1978, and began performing on his campus radio show. Drayton adopted the name Flavor Flav once they began rapping together.

Career Life
Flavor Flav met Carlton Ridenhour, better known as Chuck D, while both were students at Adelphi University on Long Island. Flavor Flav adopted Chuck D’s stage name as a tribute to their shared love of graffiti and hip-hop.
Formed a hip-hop group named Public Enemy in Long Island in 1982, with the help of DJ Lord and Khari Wynn.
It was 1987 when Flavor Flav’s debut album, Yo! Bum Rush the Show, hit the shelves. The political track Fight the Power published in 1989 contains harsh lyrics toward iconic American heroes such as Elvis Presley and John Wayne despite the group’s demand to rise up and fight injustice.
VH1’s reality show ‘The Surreal Life’ asked him to live with a select group of celebrities in 2004. Actress Brigitte Nielsen became his girlfriend during this concert.
Strange Love premiered on VH1 in 2005 and documented Flav and Brigitte’s globetrotting romance. Brigitte opted to return to her fiancé, Mattia Dessi, at the end of Strange Love.
The Flavor Flav’s Chicken & Ribs restaurant chain, which he co-founded with two other people in 2012, opened in Michigan. After being evicted by its landlord for nonpayment of rent, this too shuttered the following year. In 2012, he went on Celebrity Wife Swap, a reality television show, with his longtime fiancee Liz.

Personal Life
With Karen Ross, Angie Parker, and Elizabeth Trujillo, Flav has six children. While he was seeing other ladies on “Flavor of Love,” he was engaged to Trujillo, and the two allegedly married after 2013. On VH1’s “Couples Therapy” in 2013, Liz and Flav appeared after Flav was arrested for assaulting her and threatening her teenage son with a knife in October 2012. He paid Angie $25,000 in June of 2012 and agreed to monthly installments of $1,200 in order to avoid six months in prison for failing to pay the $111,186 he owed in child support.
Since his first arrest for hitting Ross in 1991 and subsequent arrests for cocaine, marijuana, domestic violence, and attempted murder in 1993, Flav’s family has organized an intervention to persuade him to get treatment at the Betty Ford Center. After the death of his father in 1997, he went to the Long Island Center for Recovery for treatment. While serving a nine-week sentence at Rikers Island for parking citations and driving with a suspended license, Flav has also been detained for driving crimes in 2011, 2014, and 2015, among other incidents. At the time of his arrest in 2014, Flav had a total of 16 driving suspensions on his record.
