‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’: Netflix Unveils Release Date Status & First Look Of ‘Knives Out’ Sequel
The return to Rian Johnson’s Knives Out universe will occur on Netflix at a later date. After a limited release in theatres on a date to be announced, Netflix said on Monday that the mystery film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery would have its streaming premiere on the service on December 23, 2022.
Netflix announced the film’s premiere date and provided the first official photographs of Daniel Craig in his role as detective Benoit Blanc.
Along with new characters played by Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista, Blanc travels to Greece and becomes engaged in a mystery.

Johnson returns to write and direct the follow-up to his 2019 film, which was nominated for an Academy Award for best original screenplay. He works on production alongside Ram Bergman of T-Street. To be announced at a later time, Netflix will release Glass Onion in select cinemas.

The film’s world premiere was originally scheduled to take place at the Toronto International Film Festival. On Monday, Johnson wrote an article for Netflix’s Tudum website in which he discussed the movie’s title and how it was inspired by a Beatles song of the same name.
For Blanc to use as an overdone metaphor that he can hammer to death, Johnson is “always fishing for something fun.” All of this is immediately obvious. So I thought of glass, a transparent material.
I am going to tell you the truth. When I wanted to find a song that used the word “glass,” I pulled out my iPhone. There must be great songs about glass. Oh, I thought, “Is this place made entirely of glass?”
Is this place made entirely of glass? What kind of man-made glass is that? The Beatles’ “Glass Onion” was the first thing that came to mind. Lionsgate’s first theatrical release of Knives Out was a surprise blockbuster, one of the few original films of its ilk to break through the IP-saturated marketplace.

The Hollywood Reporter said last year that Johnson, producer Bergman, and star Daniel Craig might earn $100 million from the $469 million megadeal in which Netflix unexpectedly acquired two Knives Out sequels.

Plot of Glass Onion: Knives Out Mystery
In the forthcoming Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the first official story information has finally made it into our hands. Following much investigation—mostly reading an article published by Netflix Tudum—we now know how the excellent cast will fit into the proceedings as Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc does what he does best in this new installment: solve murder cases. Read on for the just-unveiled plot summary.
“When software mogul Miles Bron (Edward Norton) invites a select group of his closest friends and family to join him on his private Greek island for a vacation, things do not go as planned. And when a body pops up, who better than Blanc to uncover the truth?
In case that was not enticing enough, the magazine adds this mysterious sentence: “If Knives Out was about the murderous ties of flesh and blood, Glass Onion makes a good case for being just as wary of one’s closest friends.” Odder and stranger…
Cast Details of Glass Onion: Knives Out Mystery
Like the original Knives Out, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery features a star-studded cast that includes Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, Lakeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, Jaeden Martell, and Christopher Plummer in addition to Daniel Craig.
With Daniel Craig returning to the role of Benoit Blanc, the stars of Hollywood (including Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, and Ethan Hawke) will be questioned by the private investigator in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

One of the accused, WandaVision actor Kathryn Hahn, has said that the cast makes her feel like she is watching an “old school ensemble piece” in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
The world premiere of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will take place at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival.
Will Knives Out have a Season 3?
Netflix paid an eye-popping sum of $450 million for the rights to both Knives Out sequels. In the sequels, Johnson will return to his role as director, while Craig will reprise his role as investigator Benoit Blanc in a new murder mystery in the vein of Agatha Christie.
