More than six weeks after four college students were murdered in an off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho, police have arrested Bryan Christopher Kohberger. Friday, December 30, police in Pennsylvania stated that a 28-year-old man was detained on a fugitive from a justice warrant.
According to a law enforcement source, Kohberger was detained at his parents’ house in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania. Kohberger is charged with four counts of first-degree murder and criminal burglary, according to Latah County, Idaho, prosecutor Bill Thompson.
Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin were stabbed to death at an off-campus rental home during the early morning hours of November 13, and the weeks that followed without an arrest gave rise to mounting national publicity as well as anxiety and speculation about who was responsible.
Monroe County leads public defender Jason LaBar, who represented Kohberger during his extradition hearing in Pennsylvania, told CBS News that police said they knocked on the Kohbergers’ door around 3 a.m. Friday, the parents and the defendant were “beneficial.”

Kohberger is being held without bond in the Monroe County Correctional Facility. In a brief hearing on Tuesday, January 3, he waived extradition rights and is anticipated to be transferred to Idaho to face first-degree murder charges within days.
LaBar told the court, “I presume Idaho is prepared and ready to transport him back due to the publicity this issue has received.” As a precaution, Kohberger was placed on suicide watch after the hearing. The attorney, who said he had met Kohberger four times since he was brought into jail last week, described the suspect’s disposition during their encounters as “quite calm.”
“He is quite composed. He is acutely aware. He knows the proceedings,” LaBar added. “I did inform him of what to anticipate in the future days during his transport, as well as when he returns to Idaho and is likely to appear before a magistrate or judge there,” the officer said. The attorney also stated that Kohberger denies involvement in the homicides and is confident he will be forgiven.
LaBar stated, “It’s a touch out of character, he remarked; this is not him.” According to his statements, he believes he will be cleared of all charges. Consequently, he has been straightforward to communicate with and has a calm personality, as I indicated.”
Who is Bryan Kohberger?
He was born on November 21, 1994. In 2018, he earned an associate’s degree in psychology from Northampton Community College, followed by a bachelor’s degree in 2020 from DeSales University. A DeSales spokesman confirmed that he then pursued more graduate studies at the university, which he completed in 2022.
Kohberger was a Ph.D. criminology student and teaching assistant at the Pullman campus of Washington State University, which is only a 15-minute drive from Moscow, Idaho, at the time of his arrest. Kohberger had just completed his first semester at WSU, according to a statement from the university.
