Shakira has not been arrested and has not yet been given a punishment. According to Sky News, if found guilty of tax fraud in Spain, the singer faces an eight-year prison term and a fine. Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, the whose given name is “Shakira,” is suspected of owing the Spanish government $14.5 million in back taxes from 2012 to 2014.
If found guilty, prosecutors have stated they will seek a 24-million-euro fine and a prison sentence for the singer. Shakira’s camp previously released a statement in which they declared, “The singer is totally certain of her innocence and therefore does not accept a settlement”. The trial has not been scheduled as of yet.
