James Gunn, who directed The Suicide Squad, talked about how he felt about Lady Gaga being cast as Harley Quinn in the Joker sequel.
James Gunn has made it pretty clear that he would love to work with Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn while he is at Warner Bros. Discovery working on DC projects. Gunn was asked what he thought about Lady Gaga being cast as the iconic villain in Todd Phillips‘ upcoming Joker sequel. This was after it was announced that Gaga would play the role of the villain. He seems to be very on board with it and excited to see what will happen.
Joker came out in 2019, and like this year’s The Batman, it was praised for ignoring all previous versions of its main character on screen and telling a real, grounded story that left out all the fantasy elements that are usually connected to it and showed a very human story.
The movie went on to win big at the Oscars and other award shows. There were questions right away about a possible sequel, but for the next three years, the subject was mostly ignored. Last week, Joker: Folie a Deux was officially announced with a teaser video posted by Lady Gaga on her social media accounts.
James Gunn is one of the many DC fans who can’t wait to see what Joker’s universe does to Harley Quinn. This version of the character is likely to have the same grounded twist that Joaquin Phoenix gave to Joker. On his Twitter account, Gunn was asked how he felt about the subject, and he replied:
“I’m really interested to see what Todd Phillips cooks up. I met Lady Gaga once and she was really nice, so I’m always rooting for nice people to do well.”

Since he has said he wants to work with Margot Robbie on a Harley Quinn project, some people are hoping this is where he will go next. However, Robbie’s mysterious blonde psychopath is up against some tough competition.
Since The Suicide Squad came out, Gunn has made it clear that he would love to do many spin-offs with the characters from the movie, and many of the interesting and unique characters are ones that fans would love to see again.
From Idris Elba‘s Bloodsport to Sean Gunn‘s Weasel, there are a lot of places Gunn could go for his next project. After the mess that the DCEU has become, many people are just happy to see some continuity, in whatever form it comes.
Joker: Folie a Deux will come out in theatres on October 4, 2024, and James Gunn’s other movies should come out over the next two years.
