Jason Spezza was a player for several teams of note before he signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 54 games as a member of the Toronto Marlboros, he scored 114 points. After that, he joined the Ontario Hockey League, where he scored 71 points in 67 games.
Jason set a career-high in the OHL with 116 points in 66 games. The Ottawa Senators selected him second overall in the 2001 NHL Draft after he was rated the best CHL prospect.

Jason made his official Senators debut during the 2002 Calder Cup playoffs. In a 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, he scored 21 points in 33 games to make his NHL debut the following season. In the Senators’ 6-1 victory over the Montreal Canadians, he scored his first hat trick.
In September of 2013, he was appointed captain of the Senators. He scored 17 goals and had 45 helpers in 82 games for the Dallas Stars. On October 30, 2018, Jason Spezza participated in his 1,000th NHL game. Ultimately, he announced his NHL retirement during the 2022 postseason.
