At the urging of talent scouts, Hewitt relocated to Los Angeles with her mother when she was ten years old in order to pursue a career in acting and singing after taking home the title of “Texas Our Little Miss Talent Winner.” Jonathan Neville, a former student at Lincoln High School who later worked as a talent scout, suggested Hewitt for the Party of Five role.
Hewitt made appearances in over two dozen TV ads, some of which promoted Mattel toys. Her first significant role was as a young actress on the Disney Channel variety show Kids Incorporated (1989–1991).
