Kee claimed that God called him to become a preacher as he was traveling to Michigan with his choir. He was ordained as a minister when he was in his mid-twenties. After receiving a prophetic vision in 1995 while serving in Ohio, Kee moved on with the construction of a Fellowship Center in Charlotte that would serve the local population.
He became the senior pastor of the New Life Fellowship Center, which he officially formed, and he still is. The church is situated in the same neighborhood where he formerly lived a drug- and crime-ridden life.
