LA Rapper 03 Greedo Released from Prison After 4 Years
Los Angeles rapper 03 Greedo was released from prison on January 12th after serving four and a half years behind bars. The artist was due to be released on parole, as confirmed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
The news of his impending release was first reported by Jeff Weiss on January 8th. Despite being incarcerated, 03 Greedo continued to release music throughout his sentence, with his latest mixtape, Free 03, dropping just before his release.
The mixtape, produced by L.A. mainstay Mike Free, features rappers OhGeesy and the late Drakeo the Ruler, who was a frequent collaborator of 03 Greedo’s.
Born Jason Jackson, 03 Greedo had been serving a 20-year prison sentence for drug and firearm charges, which he received after taking a plea deal. His co-defendant in the case, Justin Scott, received probation after successfully arguing that the evidence against them was obtained through an illegal stop and search.
03 Greedo’s lawyers at the time did not make the same argument, leading him to take a plea deal out of fear of receiving a longer sentence. His current attorney, Morris Overstreet, has argued that his previous lawyers did not perform up to an objective standard in their defense.

03 Greedo has expressed his desire to record more music in the wake of his release. In a statement on Instagram, the rapper shared that he is currently in a halfway house for up to six months, with limited phone access.
He stated that he wants to see his daughter and record music, and hopes to release at least 12 tapes before his major album. He also shared that he wants to clear his head and is not in a rush to talk to a lot of people. However, he expressed gratitude towards his loyal fans and support system for “keeping me alive while I was incarcerated.”
03 Greedo has released several projects while in prison, including Still Summer in the Projects and Netflix & Deal with Kenny Beats, as well as Load It Up Vol. 01 with Ron-Ron The Producer and “Substance (We Woke Up),” his 2021 collaboration with Wiz Khalifa. The rapper is looking forward to continuing his music career now that he is free.
