Even though Lauren Boebert’s political career is still making news, her friendship with Jayson provides a window into the person behind the scenes. It sheds light on the intimate relationships of this significant player in modern American conservatism.
Who is Lauren Boebert?
Born on December 19, 1986, Lauren Opal Boebert (/ˈboʊbərt/ BOH-bərt), an American politician, businesswoman, and gun rights activist, has represented Colorado’s 3rd congressional district in Congress since 2021.
She was the owner of Shooters Grill, a restaurant in Rifle, Colorado, from 2013 to 2022. Employees there were encouraged to carry concealed weapons.
Boebert, a Republican, is well-known for her support of gun rights. She unexpectedly beat incumbent Scott Tipton in the 2020 Colorado House of Representatives primary election, and she later defeated Democratic challenger Diane Mitsch Bush, a former state lawmaker, in the general election.
Boebert has ties to the right-wing Freedom Caucus—of which she assumed the position of communications chair in January 2022—the conservative Republican Study Committee and the pro-gun Second Amendment Caucus in Congress.
By a slim margin of 546 votes, she defeated Adam Frisch, a former member of the Aspen City Council, to win reelection in 2022.
Lauren Boebert Husband
Boebert resided in Silt, Colorado, with her spouse, Jayson Boebert. They have one grandson and four sons. The same year she gave birth to Tyler, Jayson was arrested in February 2004 and accused of “harassing and physically assaulting” Boebert.
He was found guilty in November of the same year. Boebert worked in the oil and gas sectors both before and after she and her husband launched Shooters Grill.
Tyler was taken into custody in February 2024 on “felony charges of criminal possession of identification documents involving multiple victims and conspiracy to commit a felony.”
Since 2017, Jayson has “provided drilling services as an on-site drilling foreman” to Terra Energy. In 2012, he registered Boebert Consulting LLC.
Boebert stated that her spouse made $460,000 in 2019 and $478,000 in 2020 as a consultant for Terra Energy in her 2021 file with the House of Representatives.
Boebert declared on May 16, 2023, that she had filed for divorce on May 11 due to “irreconcilable differences” with her husband. The date of the divorce decree was October 10, 2023.

Lauren Boebert’s Career
Boebert became a Rifle McDonald’s assistant manager after graduating high school. She later said this employment changed her mind regarding government handouts.
When she married Jayson Boebert in 2007, she worked for a natural gas drilling firm and later as a pipeliner, building and maintaining pipelines and pumping stations.
Boebert and her husband launched Shooters Grill in Rifle, west of Glenwood Springs, in 2013. Boebert received a concealed carry permit after a man was “beaten to death by another man’s hands… outside of [her] restaurant” and encouraged waiters to carry firearms openly.
That is not true: in 2013, a man who had fought blocks away ran to Boebert’s restaurant, fell, and died from a methamphetamine overdose. The Boeberts owned Smokehouse 1776, now closed, across from Shooters Grill.
Boebert sold Putters on Rifle Creek Golf Course in December 2016 after opening it in 2015. Her congressional disclosure records show Shooters Grill lost $143,000 in 2019 and $226,000 in 2020.
Boebert criticized Colorado Governor Jared Polis’ 2020 COVID-19 pandemic business closure orders. She ignored Garfield County’s cease-and-desist order after reopening Shooters Grill for dine-in service in mid-May 2020, violating the state’s stay-at-home injunction.
Boebert placed tables on sidewalks and in parking spaces the next day. Garfield County suspended her food license the next day.
By late May, the state allowed eateries to operate at 50% capacity, so the county lifted its TRO. Shooters Grill closed in July 2022 because the new owner didn’t renew the lease.
