Marvel Studios has at long last found a director for Anthony Mackie’s much-awaited fourth Captain America film, which was publicly revealed more than a year ago.
The fourth film in the franchise will be directed by Julius Onah, as The Hollywood Reporter previously reported. This makes The Captain America franchise the second Marvel Cinematic Universe film series to receive a fourth movie outside of the standard trilogy, after Thor.

Marvel Studio Found Its Director For Captain America 4
Julius Onah, a Nigerian-American director, is most known for his work on the movies Luce (starring Naomi Watts and Octavia Spencer), Don’t Look Back, and The Cloverfield Paradox (starring J.J. Abrams, Daniel Brühl, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw). Malcolm Spellman, who oversees The Falcon and the Winter Soldier television series, is also co-writing the script with Dalan Musson.
Given that Joe Johnston (The First Avenger) and the Russo brothers (Winter Soldier, Civil War) are not involved in the creative process for the movie, the Captain America franchise is practically starting from fresh. This will make it possible to complete Sam Wilson’s narrative without having the previous movies have a significant impact.
What could Captain America 4 be about?
The fourth installment’s narrative has not quite been fully revealed. The narrative will undoubtedly pick up where The Falcon and the Winter Soldier left off on Disney+, which is what we do know.
Sam Wilson’s (Anthony Mackie) readiness to take on the shield that Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) had left behind for him was a topic of much debate throughout the series. After internal and external turmoil, he eventually proudly wears the shield and will take up the mantle in MCU’s new age. The political victories featured in the film contributed to Sam Wilson’s development as a character. He is not just battling for the purpose but also for equity and the rights of communities that are underrepresented but lack a voice.
There is no indication of when filming will start, however, based on the schedule of prior projects, we may speculate that production may start at some point in 2019. Having said that, it’s better to hold off until Marvel Studios issues an official statement.
