Even now, seven months after the Oscars in March, people still talk about the slap that was heard worldwide. People have talked about Will Smith‘s reaction to Chris Rock’s joke a million times, but you might not have heard Mila Kunis‘s fresh take on the situation.
When it was announced that Smith had won Best Actor, most of the people in the room stood up to applaud him. Given that he had just hit another man onstage, it was a strange thing to do.

Kunis and her husband, Ashton Kutcher, stayed in their seats at the Dolby Theatre, though, and she is now explaining why. She told Magazine C, “The idea of leading by example only makes sense when you have someone to lead.”
“We have our tiny little tribe here at home, and I never want to tell them to do something I am not willing to do myself.” The couple made this choice for their two kids, Wyatt, 8, and Dimitri, 6, because they knew that one day, the kids would see how their parents felt about the situation that was causing tension.
The 39-year-old actress also talked about why she wished other famous people would react the same way. “It was obvious that no one would stand up for me, but I was shocked by how many people did,” Kunis said.
“I thought, ‘Wow, what a time we live in, where people care more about what looks good than what is right. I think it is crazy.” It is almost shocking (but should not be) that the star of Luckiest Girl Alive is calling out other A-listers for giving Smith praise he did not deserve.

We think that if more celebrities thought like Kunis and Kutcher, not as many people would complain about Hollywood. In a situation that the Oscars are still trying to get over, the couple did the right thing.
