What is Ms. Marvel about?
According to Marvel, Kamala Khan is a 16-year-old Pakistani-American who “feels invisible both at home and at school” until she gets some amazing powers. She is also called a “want to be artist, a big gamer, and a fan-fiction writer who can’t get enough.”
Khan showed up in Marvel comics for the first time in 2013. It looks like her powers will be different in the Disney+ show than in the comics.
Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and British-Pakistani comedian Bisha K. Ali are the show’s executive producers. Bisha K. Ali is also the head writer for the show. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life) are directing the episodes, along with Meera Menon and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
Khan will also be in the upcoming MCU movie The Marvels, which is set to come out on July 28, 2023. Brie Larson will play Carol Danvers.
Ms. Marvel trailer
In the first full trailer for Ms. Marvel, we see Kamala at school and learning about her abilities. Of course, it looks like the show will be different from the comics, leaving out both the Terrigen mists and any mention of the Inhumans, which were important parts of her origin story in the comics.
At Disney Plus Day, a short teaser showed how Kamala Khan didn’t think she’d get superpowers, but she did. She seems to walk on air in an improvised Captain Marvel costume, but we can’t see how her stretchy powers work. This clip can be found on Disney Plus (opens in new tab).
At Disney Investor Day in December, Marvel showed off a teaser for Ms. Marvel called a “sizzle reel.” It says that Kamala is “a new kind of superhero,” but it also says that “at its core, her story is so universal.”
Kevin Feige, who is in charge of Marvel, says that she is a newer character in the comics. The rest of the teaser shows off the directors: Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. On the sizzle reel, Vellani’s first footage in the role is shown for the first time.
