Pixel 6a Release Date Status: Will There Be A New Pixel In 2022?
The Pixel 6a is the last member of the Google Pixel 6 family, and we can’t wait for it to arrive. Just as we thought, the tech giant announced its newest low-cost phone at the I/O conference keynote on May 11.
When Google announced the Pixel 6a, it didn’t come as much of a surprise. The higher price was probably the only thing that stood out. Read on to find out what we now know after the official announcement.

In 2022, Will There Be A New Pixel?
When Google released the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in October 2021, we loved them, and we’ve already seen the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, which will come out later in 2022.
Pixel 6a Release Date Details
The Pixel 6a was first shown off at Google’s I/O event on May 11, 2022. The Pixel 6a will be available for pre-order on July 21, and it will come out on July 28.
Pixel 6a Price
We thought that since the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro came out at a lower price than the Pixel 5, the Pixel 6a would do the same. Unfortunately, that’s not the case, and the Pixel 6a costs $449.
We don’t know if Google wanted to sell the Pixel 6a for less money but was forced to keep the same price because of a shortage of chips. No matter what, $449 is also not a bad price. The Pixel 5a 5G cost the same amount when it first came out.
Pixel 6a Camera
We all know that the camera system is the first place phone makers cut costs to keep the price down. Well, the Pixel 6a is the same, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad phone at all.
The Pixel 6a has the same main camera as the Pixel 5a 5G, which was its predecessor. More specifically, that is the Sony IMX363 1/2.55″ image sensor, which has 1.4 m pixels, a /1.7 aperture, and a field of view of 77°.
Even now, this is a great main camera, and even though the hardware is the same, it should work better on the Pixel 6a than on other phones where it was used. This is because the Pixel 6a has the same Google Tensor chip as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. This chip has a lot more power for processing images than any Pixel phone before it.
For example, the Pixel 6a’s Tensor chip lets it use the Enhanced Magic Eraser tool, which lets you erase things and people from photos and change their colors. The 6a also has Night Sight, which lets you take photos in low light, and Google’s unique Real Tone feature, which helps the camera get as accurate a picture of skin tones as it can.
Motion Mode, which is available on Google’s more expensive Pixel models, is not, however, available on the Pixel 6a.
The Pixel 6a also has a second, ultra-wide camera with a 114° field of view and an aperture of /2.2. This one is brand new, while the main one isn’t. It has fewer pixels than before—12MP to be exact—but they are bigger than before (1.25 m), which should help in low-light situations because bigger pixels can take in more light at once. The Sony IMX386 is the sensor used for this ultra-wide lens.
Last but not least, the front-facing selfie camera on the Pixel 6a has 8MP and is powered by the IMX355 sensor. This is the same front-facing camera that is on the Pixel 6.
Pixel 6a Design
The Pixel 6a looks a lot like its bigger brothers, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The two-tone Charcoal, Chalk, and Sage body is split asymmetrically by the large stripe across the back. Google has stayed true to this look because it knows it is recognizable.
The strip that holds the cameras is a little bit smaller, and there are, of course, fewer cameras inside. If you want some old-fashioned measurements, here they are 152.2 x 71.8 x 8.9mm.
Pixel 6a Display
The Pixel 6a has a 6.1-inch, 1080p, 60Hz OLED screen. It’s not too different from its predecessor, even though the screen is a little bit smaller, which should make it look sharper.
Don’t be too quick to give up, though. If it’s anything like the one on the Pixel 5a 5G, it should have great color accuracy and be more than good enough for this price. The only thing that might be a letdown is that the screen is still protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, not something stronger.
Some of the more recent news about the Pixel 6a is that it has a new fingerprint scanner that is built into the screen. An executive at Google named Rick Osterloh confirmed that the mid-range Pixel 6a has a different biometric sensor than the more expensive Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
About what Osterloh said, Google Retail Training France put up a video on Reddit not too long ago. It shows the Sage and Charcoal-colored Pixel 6a being taken out of its box and a quick demo of the phone in which the fingerprint sensor is used to open the phone to show how well it works.
Pixel 6a Battery
The Pixel 6a has a 4410mAh battery that can be charged at speeds of up to 18W. But it’s important to note that, unlike the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, the Pixel 6a doesn’t have wireless charging.
