Taylor Dayne, a singer who was nominated for a Grammy, said that she was told she had colon cancer earlier this year.
In a recent interview with Good Morning America, the 60-year-old “Tell It to My Heart” singer admitted that the illness was a “dark battle” she had to fight.
After having a standard colonoscopy in July, Dayne discovered she had the condition. She emphasized the importance of early detection and encouraged her followers to get tested.
“Life is precious,” she said. “[The doctor] never even said the stage [of cancer]. All I could do was think, ‘OK, five months ago, I knew there was nothing.’ So this is early detection.”
A few weeks after getting her diagnosis, the woman from Long Island had surgery to remove 10 inches of her colon.
Despite being cancer-free, she had to spend nearly three weeks in the hospital due to a post-op illness.
Dayne concentrated on getting better physically, mentally, and emotionally after her surgery. She noticed that her pain reminded her of the “trauma” she went through as a young child who got kidney infections often.
“For me, being back, I felt like I was four years old again, back in the hospital, basically locked inside my own body without a voice,” the “Can’t Fight Fate” songstress explained.
“So, this has challenged me mentally and emotionally. “I am now back in a therapy program,” she added.
Dayne is advising others to choose doctors they can trust because he is feeling better than ever.
She said: “When you’re really sick, you don’t have the energy, you’re really relying on your champions around you, your soldiers, your people. Find the doctor who will tell you the truth. “Be a warrior for yourself.”
The American Cancer Society says that about 106,180 Americans will be told they have colon cancer in 2022.
After lung and breast cancer, colon cancer is the third most frequent type of cancer to harm people.
Obesity and a poor diet may hasten the disease’s development.
Chadwick Boseman, a legendary member of the Marvel cast, fought the illness for four years before dying of it in August 2020, at the age of 43.
