Review: Ticket to Paradise; George Clooney and Julia Roberts’ Incredible Chemistry Astounds Audience

George Clooney and Julia Roberts have great chemistry, and their jokes hit home. He still has that crinkly-eyed grin with more of the salt-and-pepper hair, and she still has that most contagious giggle in the world.

Two of those are available. I wish. For those of us who are of a certain generation, this incredibly charismatic actor in a role like this rom-com just isn’t enough. Despite the fact that the two have worked together before in other parts that have capitalized on their undeniable star power, this is the first time Clooney and Roberts have been cast together in a role that matches their charm.

It is the one positive aspect of Ticket to Paradise, which is as gorgeously lifeless as the images it keeps throwing up to persuade us that Bali “is the most beautiful spot on Earth.” And the movie isn’t even filmed in Bali; it’s in Australia.

When the credits start to roll, you will be treated to a take in which Julia Roberts comforts a stewardess who has just spilled a glass and appears to be star-struck by saying, “Don’t worry, it’s just George Clooney. Two of those are available. I wish. For those of us who are of a certain generation, this incredibly charismatic actor in a role like this rom-com just isn’t enough. According to what is revealed, Georgia is still unhappy about having put off pursuing her career goals in order to start a family with David. She is anxious to prevent Lily from making the same mistake. David merely wants better for his kid. The movie questions if parents can ever accept their children for who they are without trying to change them in some of its most well-written passages.

However, we are not here for Lily, Gede, or his exotic Balinese family that he fawningly worships, are we? The setup, the sunrises, the sunsets, the sand, the beach, and even a euphoric dance performed while intoxicated (which results in the most depressing morning after) are all done to bring Roberts and Clooney together.

Why save the best for last? is Georgia’s motto in life, at least for the most part. But in this case, we are talking about the best content that Ticket to Paradise contains. And no, it doesn’t resemble heaven; rather, it looks like something familiar.
