Is Sam Smith Gay? “I’m Not Male Or Female…..
Sam Smith, a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, has come out as gender non-binary.
“I’m not male or female. I think I float somewhere in between,” Smith said Friday on actor Jameela Jamil‘s new Instagram show, “I Weigh Interviews.”
Smith stated that when he saw the terms “nonbinary“ and “genderqueer” and heard people refer to persons who identify as neither entirely male nor female, he thought, “F—k, that’s me!”
Even though many nonbinary and gender-nonconforming individuals choose to use the gender-neutral pronouns “they” and “them,” multiple news sources suggest that Smith still prefers male pronouns, such as “he” and “him.”
While this is the first time Smith has explicitly defined as nonbinary, he has previously discussed his lack of a binary gender identity. In an interview with The Sunday Times conducted in October 2017, Smith stated, “I don’t know what the title would be, but I feel just as much a woman as I am a man.”

During his “I Weigh Interviews” interview, Smith also acknowledged his persistent body-image issues. Although he has gained greater self-acceptance over the years, he claims “he has always had a war between his body and mind.” He disclosed that he underwent liposuction at the age of 12 when a doctor determined he was developing breasts due to his body’s excessive estrogen storage.
