Singer Selena Gomez opens up about her emotions just before the premiere of her documentary
Tomorrow, Apple TV+ will air Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me, a documentary on the singer’s battles with mental illness. To be released soon, Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me will feature the singer-actress speaking openly about her experiences with mental illness.
Selena Gomez spoke with Rolling Stone about the documentary before its broadcast on Apple TV+ tomorrow. Gomez has bipolar disorder, attempted suicide on several occasions, and sought treatment at mental health facilities.
She talks to the media about the film’s upcoming premiere, saying: In the documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me, Gomez collaborated with director Alek Keshishian.
“I’m just so nervous. Because I have the platform I have, it’s kind of like I’m sacrificing myself a little bit for a greater purpose. I don’t want that to sound dramatic, but I almost wasn’t going to put this out. God’s honest truth, a few weeks ago, I wasn’t sure I could do it.”

Together, they worked on her Hands to Myself music video from 2015. It was a concert tour documentary that first piqued Gomez’s curiosity.
She had to put a halt to the Revival musical tour she was performing at the time so that she could get treatment. This change was made to give the audience a better understanding of Gomez’s personal life and the effects of his mental condition.
Exemplifying a Vital Experience
Gomez is well aware of the importance of raising public awareness about the challenges posed by mental health conditions, but that doesn’t mean she’s found it simple to talk about her own experiences in doing so.
Even more so, she questioned whether or not she should be the one to deal with it:
“I know it has a big message, but am I the right person to bring it to light? I don’t know. I wanted someone to say, ‘Selena, this is too intense.’ But everyone was like, ‘I’m really moved, but are you ready to do this? And are you comfortable?’”
Gomez was understandably apprehensive about releasing the film, given the personal nature of its subject matter, but she understood that by doing so, she could help others.

Gomez took note of the response from the audience after a showing and decided that if she “could do that for one person,” she should do it. Gomez, who has been in the spotlight for over a decade, spoke about what she intends to do after the film’s promotion ends:
This is probably the most you’ll hear about me for a while. I want this to come out, but I also want this behind me. Every now and then it’s important to just disappear.”
