On Tuesday, Bandai Namco and the Tekken team announced Tekken 8 and debuted the first gameplay video of the upcoming fighting game. The first Tekken 8 clip was shown during Sony’s State of Play conference, and it featured a fight between series staples Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima, rendered with more fidelity than ever before.
Katsuhiro Harada, the producer of the Tekken series, has said that the game’s debut trailer was “derived directly from a certain portion of the current work-in-progress Tekken 8’s story mode, played on PlayStation 5.”
In other words, Harada wrote on Sony’s PlayStation Blog, “all the character models, scenery, and effects are the same ones that are used in-game.” This is not a pre-rendered movie generated for the trailer but rather real-time rendered footage, running at 60 frames per second, just like how you’d play the game in battle modes, even if it was captured from the story mode. All of the visual effects, dialogue, and camera position are being worked on and may change before the game comes out.
Tekken 8 Release Date Speculation
There is currently no confirmed release date for Tekken 8 on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC. Harada warned that releasing Street Fighter 6 so close to Tekken 8 would put it in the “danger zone” on an episode of his show Harada’s Bar. Since Tekken 8 would need to come out before EVO 2023 and after Street Fighter 6, we anticipate an April or July 2023 release date. But that is purely our assumption.
As one of the first next-gen exclusive fighting games, it joins Street Fighter 6 in arriving on PS4 and not Xbox One.
The Tekken 8 Story
Kazuya and Jin, father and son, square off in the main story mode of Tekken 8. But beyond that, Bandai Namco is keeping rather quiet regarding Tekken 8’s story mode, so we don’t know much about it at the moment.
But now that the Tokyo Game Show has arrived, we should be hearing more about the game.
Tekken 8’s Gameplay
Tekken 8’s first video included a fight between Kazuya and Jin and offered us a glimpse at the game’s amazing aesthetics. This will be the first Tekken game in more than seven years.
We don’t know how the new gameplay elements will affect the actual fighting, but we do know that Tekken 8 is putting a lot of effort into the landscapes, dynamic arenas, and backgrounds, which really bring the series to life in a new manner. This gameplay trailer was taken from the game’s story mode, so it shows how the fighting game looks as it is being made right now.
In addition, Harada notes that the team is paying close attention to the finer points of the characters’ features, skin, and models, as well as particle effects like water and how they interact with the combatants, in a post on the PlayStation Blog. Harada also puts a lot of emphasis on the dynamic backgrounds, like a huge tanker breaking up in a storm, which includes storm rendering and a lot of weather.

Tekken 8’s Announcement Trailer
The trailer lasts just less than two minutes. It depicts a difficult confrontation between Jim Kazama and his father, Kazuya Mishima, in the middle of a violent storm. It’s entirely created in-game, showcasing the game’s beautiful character models and background art. Seeing more of this stunning fighter is high on our list of priorities.
Characters
Leroy Smith, Katarina, and Fahkumram were just a few of the newcomers to the Tekken series in Tekken 7, and we fully anticipate seeing them return in Tekken 8.
However, because the trailer featured Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima, you may assume they will be playable characters. As was said up top, this part will be revised as new information becomes available.
Is Tekken 8 coming to PS5 and Nintendo Switch?
Bandai Namco, the game’s creators, has confirmed that the PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and PC will all be able to play Tekken 8. The bad news is that it won’t be coming to the Nintendo Switch.
