The Hangover 4 Release Date Status: Will There Ever Be The Hangover 4?
At the start of the 21st century, there was a rise in raunchy, loud comedies. This trend peaked in 2009 with The Hangover, which turned the familiar “bachelor party” premise on its head by using an inventive new structure and packing the film with an incredibly talented cast. When Phil (Bradley Cooper) and Stu (Ed Helms) take their friend Doug (Justin Bartha) and his weird future brother-in-law Alan (Zach Galifianakis) to Las Vegas for Doug’s bachelor party, things get off to a good start. But when Phil, Alan, and Stu wake up the next morning, they realize they’ve lost Doug.
If you didn’t see The Hangover, you’ll have to find out where Doug is on your own, but this still funny movie set a new standard for dirty comedies. Even though it came out more than 10 years ago, it is still a favorite. In 2010, it even won the Golden Globe for Best Musical or Comedy. In this way, it makes sense that The Hangover eventually led to two more movies, making a trilogy that nobody saw coming. It’s also natural that one big question will still be asked in 2020: Will there ever be another Hangover movie?
Since the first movie came out, both the actors and the director, Todd Phillips, have become even more well-known, getting nominated for Academy Awards and getting huge opportunities left and right.
This makes a fourth Hangover movie unlikely.
From how the actors feel about a third sequel to what they’ve been up to since The Hangover 3, here are some reasons why we might never see Phil, Alan, and Stu’s messy adventures in another Hangover movie.

The Hangover 4 Release Status
The first Hangover movie was like a breath of fresh air. It had a funny story and great performances from Cooper, Galifianakis, Helms, and Bartha (when he was on screen). The next two movies, though, didn’t manage to catch that same spark.
Since the premise of the first movie is what made it stand out, it’s easy to see why using such a specific framework three times might not work. But The Hangover got good reviews and did very well at the box office, making nearly $470 million on a $35 million budget and becoming one of the highest-grossing R-rated movies ever, so it was inevitable that a sequel would be made. The Hangover Part II came out in 2011 & The Hangover Part 3 in 2013.
The Hangover was supposed to be a trilogy and fans are already upset with how the second and third parts were written, so if the fourth part has the same plot, it might not be able to draw in as many people. To get as much buzz as the first movie in the series, the crew will have to come up with something special.
When asked if there would be part 4, Ed Helms said, “The chances are between zero and zero.” His words showed a lot of thought. The actors and crew are happy with what they’ve done in the first three parts, so there’s no need to drag out the story.
Even though The Hangover 4 wasn’t picked up for 4 sequels, we’ve put together a list of all the rumors about it. What could have happened if the 4th part of the series had been made?
What actors will return in fourth Hangover movie?
The most important question is whether or not director Todd Phillips and the original cast would come back to make The Hangover 4.
From Ed Helms’s point of view, the answer is a clear “no,” and he’s been pretty clear over the years that he’s done with the series. Helms played a game called “Helms yes or Helms no” during an interview with Access Hollywood in January 2020, as reported by US Magazine. When asked if there would be a fourth Hangover, he said, “Hells no,” and added that he thinks the series is done.
Helms has said no to making another Hangover movie before.
Helms was very honest about the chances of a sequel in an interview with CinePop in 2018 (via ScreenRant). He said, “I’d say the chances of a fourth movie are between zero and zero.”

Cooper, Phillips, and Galifianakis haven’t been as open as Helms about what they think about a possible Hangover 4, but the truth is that these three are pretty busy with other, bigger projects. Cooper, in particular, has become a mainstay in Hollywood. He was nominated for an Oscar for co-writing, directing, and starring in A Star Is Born with Lady Gaga, which was an extremely successful debut for him as a director.
Galifianakis was in the critically acclaimed FX show Baskets and won an Emmy for his cringe-worthy comedy show Between Two Ferns, which got its own Netflix movie. Phillips may not make any more raunchy comedies after the success of Joker, which got 11 Oscar nominations (including Best Director) and gave Joaquin Phoenix his first Best Actor award.
Taking everything into account, it’s possible that there will never be a fourth Hangover movie, but you can always stream the first three any time you want.
