Dunk and Egg continue to move toward their HBO premiere. CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery David Zaslav provided an update on Friday regarding the upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, whose title is likely to be changed to avoid using the word “Knight” twice.
“[Creator and executive producer] George R.R. Martin is in preproduction for the new spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which will premiere in late 2025 on Max,” Zaslav stated.
Production on the show is anticipated to start later this year. HBO may decide to start releasing a Thrones drama every year, given that House of the Dragon will be returning for a second season this summer and Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will premiere in the following year (provided both shows can turn around their next seasons within two years).

“Looking ahead, we’ve got one of the best lineups in the history of HBO,” Zaslav added. “This next quarter, we’ll have Hacks and House of the Dragon, followed by DC’s The Penguin and the new Dune series. Then, in 2025, we’ll kick off the year with the new season of The White Lotus, followed by The Last of Us and Euphoria, to name a few.”

HBO is also producing an Aegon’s Conquest prequel series from writer Mattson Tomlin, who wrote The Batman: Part II, as was previously revealed this month.
Only House of the Dragon and Knight of the Seven Kingdoms have been given the go-ahead, but other concepts centered around Martin’s fantastical universe are currently under development.
The Hedge Knight is based on Martin’s well-known trilogy of Dunk and Egg novellas, which tell the tale of “Dunk,” or Ser Duncan the Tall, the future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, and “Egg,” or Aegon V. Targaryen, the future king, as they travel Westeros and have adventures about a century before the events of the novels.
The description reads as follows: “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros … a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
