Nayanthara, The Lady Super Star, and her husband, Vignesh Shivan, recently made significant news about starting a new chapter in their lives as parents to twins. The news quickly spread online, thrilling fans and well-wishers alike. The celebrity couple appears to be headed for trouble, though.
Given that the couple had just recently tied the knot in June, the news of the twins was undoubtedly unexpected for everyone. The couple chose surrogacy, and on October 10, they welcomed twin sons into the world.
The Tamil Nadu government announced shortly after the announcement that it would investigate whether or not the couple had broken any Indian surrogacy regulations.
Notably, the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, of 2021 outlawed commercial surrogacy in India. The law was passed in December 2021, and on January 25, 2022, it became operative.
Only altruistic surrogacy is legal in India under this law. Therefore, aside from paying for her own medical costs, the surrogate mother will not receive anything from the intended parents. Additionally, the couple’s genetic relationship with the surrogate mother is required.
There are no records, though, of the surrogate woman who gave birth to Nayan and Vignesh’s twin sons.
There won’t be any issues for Nayan and Vignesh if they adhere to the new surrogacy law. Otherwise, they risk getting into legal trouble for breaking the law.
The queries were put to Ma Subramanian, the health minister for Tamil Nadu, during a news conference on Monday. She has stated that an investigation will be carried out. “There are numerous discussions about surrogacy itself. However, the law permits people to participate in surrogacy if they are over 21 and under 36, with the family’s consent, the minister added.
