According to sources, On Wednesday, HBO confirmed that the premiere date for their “The Last of Us” TV series, based on the hit PlayStation video game, will be January 15, 2023, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. There will be nine episodes total in the first season. The Last of Us airs every Sunday night at 9 p.m. Eastern on HBO and HBO Max.

What will The Last of Us be about?
The Last of Us, based on a game by the same name initially released for the PlayStation 3 a decade ago, transports players to a post-apocalyptic United States where a mutant strain of the Cordyceps fungus has decimated society, turning infected humans into zombie-like cannibalistic creatures. Early reviews of the high-budget series agree that HBO has another blockbuster genre hit on its hands, one that will more than satisfy diehard fans and new viewers alike and that the show’s creators (Craig Mazin of Chernobyl acclaim and Neil Druckmann, the original writer and co-director of the game) will aim to avoid the typical problems with video game adaptations.

New characters, such as Melanie Lynskey’s vicious revolutionary leader Kathleen and Elain Miles’ and Graham Greene’s married survivors Florence and Marlon, will also be featured in the program in addition to those from the video game series. The computer game’s Joel, Ellie, and Tommy voice actors, Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and Jeffery Pierce, are all expected to make cameo appearances in the TV show.
