Fielder talked to Rolling Stone, and he said that comedy was never his first choice. First, he went to the University of British Columbia to study science. ” Some have seen parallels between The Rehearsal and Charlie Kaufman’s Synecdoche, New York. Since the show’s premise involves Fielder assisting regular people in amusing ways, it has been called a “spiritual heir” to Nathan For You.
