What happened to Ryan Tannehill? How long is Ryan’s out?

Ryan Tannehill, the former Miami Dolphins quarterback, was a top-tier player in the NFL for nearly a decade. After eight seasons with the Dolphins, fans were left wondering, “what happened to Ryan Tannehill?” This article will dive into the events that led up to his departure from Miami and his current situation with the Tennessee Titans. It will explore Tannehill’s role in the league and how it has changed since he left Miami.

About Ryan Tanheill

Ryan Timothy Tannehill III (born July 27, 1988) is a National Football League’s Tennessee Titans (NFL) quarterback. After playing college football at Texas A&M as a wide receiver through his junior year, the Miami Dolphins selected him eighth overall in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Tannehill was the starting quarterback for the Dolphins for his first seven seasons before he was moved to the Titans in 2019. Tannehill became the starting quarterback midway through the season and guided the team to the AFC Championship Game. In addition, he was selected for the Pro Bowl and voted NFL Comeback Player of the Year. Tannehill helped the Titans win consecutive division titles in his next two seasons.

What Happened To Ryan Tannehill

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport said on Friday that Tannehill underwent “tightrope” ankle surgery in Birmingham, Alabama, this week. If Tannehill opts for this very innovative treatment, the best-case scenario indicates that he will return to the field in around three weeks.

Ryan Tannehill will not participate on Thursday Night Football when the Tennessee Titans face Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys. After undergoing surgery last week to repair his injured ankle, there was a distant prospect that the quarterback would return this season.

On Thursday, the Titans placed Tannehill on Injured Reserve, officially ending his season and removing any chance of a comeback (the Titans would need to make the AFC Championship game for him to return).

Following two consecutive successful seasons in which he led the Titans to the playoffs, Tannehill endured a challenging 2022 season. His completion percentage in his first 12 games as a starter is the lowest it has been in three years. Mike Vrabel may review his options at quarterback with Willis and Dobbs now that the veteran is effectively done for the season.

How Long Is Ryan Tannehill Expected To Be Out?

Many anticipated that Tannehill would be placed on injured reserve immediately, freeing up a roster spot, but the Titans have kept the door open for his possible return. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport said that Tannehill will return to the field in around three weeks.

Although this may sound unlikely, especially given Tannehill’s ankle issues earlier in the season, Titans head coach Mike Vrabel has only indicated that his quarterback is “out this week” without making any prognostications for the remainder of the season. A league source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Saturday that Tannehill will not play during the regular season and that his participation in the playoffs is “unlikely.”

Final Words

Ryan Tannehill’s ankle injury is both a physical and mental setback to the Tennessee Titans. It is uncertain what type of impact this will have on the team’s performance going forward, but it is evident that he has the support of his teammates and coaches. Tannehill still has time to recover properly before the regular season begins, so it’s important for all Titans fans to remain patient as more information becomes available about his status.
