Why Harrison Ford Returned To Indiana Jones After Two Decades?
In the summer of 2008, Harrison Ford performed the prominent role of Indiana Jones for the final time in front of the public. In addition to songs from artists like “American Idol” alum Jordin Sparks, Leona Lewis’s “Bleeding Love” was at the top of the charts.
Hilary Clinton’s first run for president was also in danger of being decisively defeated by a newly elected senator from Illinois, and Beijing was preparing to host the Summer Olympics. Additionally, a mac and cheese tournament hosted by Emeril Lagasse unexpectedly became one of ABC News’ top stories of 2008.
In other words, the world feels simultaneously wholly different and the same since “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” albeit we can all agree that the “No Air” vinyl belongs in a museum. Strangely, Ford also finds himself staring down the barrel of the fifth “Indiana Jones” adventure in both 2008 and 2022. This time, however, will be different because the movie will be finished.
Casual fans may have had the impression that Ford was afraid to return to another of his most adored characters due to his forthright attitude on his work in “Star Wars” and the “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” at best tepid reception. On the other hand, Ford has been prepared to crack the whip since 2009.
One more journey for Indy
Despite the fourth film’s dismal reception with fans, plans for a fifth one started to take form relatively soon after its release. According to a 2009 article by People, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg met with Harrison Ford to discuss the plot of the franchise’s upcoming installment. The three men “agree on what the fifth adventure will involve, and George is vigorously at work,” Ford recalled. If the writing is good, I’ll be thrilled to don the suit once more, he continued.
The Lucasfilm Corporation and its intellectual rights, such as the “Indiana Jones” franchise, would be acquired by the Walt Disney Company in 2012. Ford was confirmed to star in the fifth “Indiana Jones” film, officially revealed by the production company in 2016—four years after the first.
The actor said he was thrilled to take on the role again on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” He gushed about how much he enjoyed playing the part and working with Spielberg, who was then slated to direct. The movie was supposed to come out on July 19, 2019, but due to delays, we ended up with a remake of “The Lion King” (yay?).
Nearly 15 years after it was initially proposed, “Indy 5” will soon be released. Empire has exclusively published the first picture of Harrison Ford back in costume (spoiler alert: he still looks damn incredible). Even while contemporary events may seem strangely similar, there has been one significant change: Ford now views this movie as his last journey. “I just thought [a movie] where Indiana Jones was at the end of his trip would be lovely,” he said to Empire.
The “Indiana Jones 5” release date has been announced for June 2023.
